Heavy rains caused flooding in Montgomery County

(MT. STERLING, Ky.) Heavy rains on Thursday caused flooding in Montgomery County.

The emergency management director says about six roads throughout the county were closed because they were covered with water.

The Hinkston Creek in Mount Sterling was about a foot higher than normal. Water flooded part of East Main Street near Willow Street forcing the road to be closed. About a dozen businesses along that stretch of road were affected but business owners are glad everyone is staying safe.

“All the money in the world isn’t worth one kid or something getting swept down the creek,” said Lyle Kittle who works at Sterling Auto Clinic along East Main Street.
