Hearing for Lexington bar accused of over-serving driver in deadly crash
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — A Lexington bar faces punishment after a wrong-way crash in January that killed six people.
That case was discussed Tuesday morning in a closed hearing with Lexington Alcoholic Beverage Control and Horseshoes Kentucky Grill and Saloon on North Broadway.
The bar is accused of over-serving the man police say caused a deadly crash on I-75 back in January.
Police say the driver, 41-year-old Joey Lee Bailey, left the bar early January 6th then drove down I-75 in the wrong direction.
He crashed head on with an SUV carrying the Abbas family from Michigan, causing the vehicle to catch fire, police say.
The family was killed, along with Bailey.
Fayette County Coroner says Bailey’s blood alcohol level was .306, more than three times the legal limit.
Police say they had evidence Bailey was drinking at Horseshoes and another bar outside of Lexington the night of the crash.
During the hearing, police say the ABC and the bar talked about a possible penalty. But those specifics weren’t made public.
Police say there was no agreement and the case is continuing.
They say a formal public hearing hasn’t been scheduled at this time.
