Health Department Wears Teal For Cervical Cancer Awareness

Kentucky has one of the highest death rates from cervical cancer in the nation.

The Lexington/Fayette County Health Department encouraged everyone to wear teal Friday as part of cervical cancer awareness month. The health department said by wearing teal it will get people talking about the disease.

"It’s one of those cancers that can be prevented and a lot of people don’t know that and I think that this campaign is important to get people to know that," said Jessica Jackson with the Health Department.

The health department received a grant to increase awareness of cervical cancer over the next six month. They suggest women between the ages of 21 and 65 get a routine pap test as a preventative measure.
