Health department reports Montgomery Co. food worker tests positive for hepatitis A
MT. STERLING, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Montgomery County Health Department is reporting an employee at the Pilot Subway in Mt. Sterling has tested positive for hepatitis A.
The health department says the employee was involved in food preparation at the store located at 3060 Owingsville Road.
The health department says it immediately conducted an inspection to confirm the restaurant was following required food handling regulations, including ensuring all food handlers were wearing gloves and using a surface cleaner that kills the Hepatitis A virus.
It says the facility passed inspection and was found to be following all safe food handling procedures.
Management has partnered with the Montgomery County Health Department to offer vaccination to employees, according to health officials.
While the risk of transmission to the public has been determined to be low, health officials say people who visited Pilot Subway from September 10 to September 19 should watch for possible symptoms of hepatitis A.
