Health Department Offers Classes To Help Stop Smoking
The class will meet from 5:00-6:00 p.m. every Thursday from August 22nd to November 14th at Sullivan University.
The education will include the Cooper-Clayton Method to Stop Smoking which provides 12 weeks of education and support sessions that have been proven to be effective.
“The average smoker attempts to quit at least nine times before succeeding, and our Cooper-Clayton classes have been very effective in helping those who want to stop smoking,” said Angela Brumley-Shelton, tobacco health educator with LFCHD. “The classes provide education, social support and nicotine replacement therapy, all of which combine to give participants their best shot at stopping smoking.”
The class requires participants to pay $10 each week for the first 10 weeks for a total of $100. The full amount can be paid at registration or weekly payments will be accepted. Financial plans may be available for those who are unable to make the full payment. Participants will receive nicotine replacement therapy products, such as nicotine gum, patches and lozenges for 10 weeks of the program.
“For a pack-a-day smoker, this fee is equal to two days worth of cigarettes,” Brumley-Shelton said, “so the investment in yourself really pays off.”
