Hazard man killed in fiery crash
ROCKFORK, Ky. (WTVQ)- State police say a Hazard man died after a crash with a coal truck Monday, just after 9 a.m. on KY Highway 80 in Knott County.
KSP says that when they arrived, a combination tractor and trailer coal truck was on fire. A small SUV was also found, with the driver trapped inside. The SUV was not on fire.
Investigators say 50-year-old Danny Kestner was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox, when his car crossed into the westbound lanes and hit a 1998 Mack. They say the car hit the fuel tank of the truck, resulting in the Mack catching on fire.
State police say Kestner was pronounced dead the the scene by the coroner. The driver of the truck had minor injuries, but did not seek medical attention.
Troopers say both drivers were wearing seat belts.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Toxicology reports from the drivers are pending.
