Harrodsburg set to make decision on alcohol sales
HARRODSBURG, Ky. (AP)- Voters in the city of Harrodsburg in Mercer County will soon decide whether to expand alcohol sales to smaller restaurants and open the door to bars and retail package stores.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports that the vote will take place on Tuesday to determine whether drinks could be sold in restaurants that seat at least 50 people.
In November 2003, Harrodsburg voters approved the sale of alcohol by the drink in restaurants that seat at least 100 people and receive at least 70 percent of gross receipts from the sale of food.
Julie Wagner, a member of Citizens for Economic Growth, a group that supports going wet, says the measure would bring jobs and revenue to the city.
Opponents to the bill say they don’t want to make it easier for young people to get alcohol.
