Harrodsburg man killed in crash involving trash truck on US-127 in Mercer County
SALVISA, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that happened Wednesday morning in Mercer County.
Troopers with Kentucky State Police Richmond Post say they were contacted just before 7 a.m. about a crash on Louisville Road (US-127) near Salvisa.
The preliminary investigation indicates a Rumpke trash truck, operated by 35-year-old Jeremy Caudill of Hustonville, was stopped northbound on the roadway collecting trash at a residence when it was struck from the rear by a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado.
Authorities say the pickup truck was driven by 44-year-old Jason McCarty of Harrodsburg.
Officials say McCarty sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Mercer County Coroner’s Office. Caudill was not injured in the crash.
Investigators say the collision remains under investigation and is being reconstructed by Detective Tyler Holt.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, Mercer County EMS, Mercer County Fire Department and the Mercer County Coroner’s Office.
