Harlan Co. man arrested after alleged standoff with deputies
HARLAN, Ky. (WTVQ) — A Harlan County man was arrested Thursday after an alleged standoff with deputies in an apartment complex.
According to the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the New Hope Apartment Complex for a report of a man at an apartment refusing to leave.
As deputies arrived, they said they saw a man run into a bedroom and heard him barricading the door.
The man, later identified as David Simpson, was allegedly heard saying he had a gun and would “kill law enforcement if they entered the room.”
Residents living in the adjacent apartments were then evacuated for “cautionary reasons.”
After several hours of negotiations, deputies knocked the bedroom door down and arrested Simpson, who allegedly had two knives in his possession.
Simpson was charged with criminal trespassing, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and menacing.
He was also served with warrants from Harlan and Pulaski counties.
