Hands On Originals Loses In Discrimination Complaint
In what’s being called a landmark ruling, a hearing officer ruled in favor of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Human Rights Commission in its complaint against Hands On Originals.
That complaint was filed after the business refused to print and sell t-shirts for the 2012 Lexington Pride Festival.
In his ruling Monday, Greg Munson said Hands On Originals discriminated against the Gay and Lesbian Service Organization by refusing to serve them.
Hands On Originals said at the time that it had the right to refuse service because, as a Christian company, it disagreed with the message of the shirt.
Munson said that businesses must make their goods and services accessible to all protected classes including sexual orientation.
