Lexington, Ky (WTVQ): Southeast Fayette County has a major development coming its way. It’s a 44acre plot of land at the intersection of I-75 and I-64 Winchester Road.  Hamburg East is a project that’s been in the works for 25 years.

Joe Brumley, with Cowgill Inc., says, “I think you’ll see this is a great destination exit for travelers coming through Lexington on I-75 and I-64. When we started there were 86 acres there. UK Healthcare has purchased 41 acres and that would be an anchor for this development in addition to Baptist Health which is our next-door neighbor,” he said.

Currently on the East Side of I-75 there’s limited hotel and dining options, and 20 years ago. “This was all open space,” Brumley said. “There was no development in the area. This was before Cabela’s, before COSTCO before Baptist Health before the new middle school,”

Brumley says the most important part of this project is how it will assist UK Healthcare and Baptist Health. “It’s really going to change lives of healthcare for Kentuckians because it is going to be so much easier to access this where patients won’t have to go on to campus,” he said.

And it will be good for visitors, he said. “Over the next year I think you’ll see all of this come together with the roads, and the electric system, the utilities installed by the end of this year you will be able to drive right through.”

Brumley says in 2025 you will begin to see restaurants, hotels, and apartments emerge.
