Halloween Safety Tips
Children are four times more likely to be killed getting hit by a car on Halloween than any other night of the year.
Georgetown Police have tips to keep you and your kids safe while trick-or-treating.
- Kids should be supervised while trick-or-treating
- Stay in familiar neighborhoods
- Don’t have kids knock on doors that aren’t lit
- Look both ways when crossing streets
- Costumes should be bright or kids should at least carry something reflective
- Check all candy before kids eat it – look for unusual objects, strange smells and tears in packaging
- Drivers should be extra alert – use headlights early in the evening, drive slow and use blinkers
- Remember common sense
Since Halloween falls on a weeknight this year, some houses may end their festivities early. Police say to be mindful of these houses.
