Group protests removal of plaque on Jefferson Davis statue

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) — A group is protesting the decision the Historic Properties Commission made to take down the plaque on a historical monument in the State Capitol.

The plaque was on a statue of Jefferson Davis which read, “Patriot. Hero. Statesman.”

On Saturday, a group called “Identity Evropa” protested the removal by placing a new sign on the statue which reads “Our history will not be erased.” and includes the original text.

State officials tell us the sign may have been up for 15-20 minutes before it was removed. They say they are now reviewing their security measures around the statue.
