Grimes addresses claims of rigged election at task force meeting

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – During a meeting with the Election Integrity Task Force on Tuesday, Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes addressed claims from Donald Trump’s campaign that election results are being rigged.

Speaking to members of the United States Attorney’s office in the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky, the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, Attorney General Andy Beshear, and the Kentucky State Police, Grimes said, “Comments to the effect that this election is rigged are wholly unfounded, inappropriate, and have no basis in an election.”

A statement released prior to Tuesday’s meeting read, “Recent claims that our elections are rigged strike at the heart of our democracy.  They are fanatical scare tactics and bear no resemblance to the truth.”

Grimes is the state’s top election official.
