Grenade found in backyard in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Constructions workers made a potentially explosive discovery in a backyard this week.

The Lexington Police Department says officers were called to Rosemont Garden where construction workers were renovating a home.

The workers told officers they discovered a grenade in the backyard.

The Hazardous Devices Unit responded, took x-rays and determined it was a live grenade.

The grenade was placed in a containment vessel by a robot, taken away from the area and detonated, according to police.

They say, based on its condition, the grenade could be from the World War II era and was in the ground for some time.

No other explosives were found at the site.
