Grant aims to help replace aging school buses in Kentucky
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – School districts can apply for funding to replace older school buses through a new program.
The Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet announced Tuesday the 2019 Kentucky Clean Diesel Grant Program will provide more than $320,000 to fund projects to reduce diesel emissions from aging school buses.
The program is an effort to reduce diesel emissions and improve air quality by replacing older, more polluting buses with newer, cleaner ones.
All Kentucky public school districts and private schools that own and operate school buses are eligible to apply for funding through the program.
Those school districts receiving the grant will be reimbursed up to 25 percent of the total cost of the purchase of a new school bus replacement. Grant recipients are responsible for the remaining 75 percent.
The deadline to apply for funds is November 13, 2019.
