Grand Canyon Hike Honors Fallen Kentucky State Troopers

Kentucky State Police Commissioner Rodney Brewer and Kentucky State Police Lt. Col. Jack Miniard trekked the Grand Canyon from rim-to-rim to honor troopers who currently serve and those who gave their lives in the line of duty.

The two did the 30-mile hike August 22-24, 2014.

They trained for months leading up to the hike.

The two carried the photos of the 27 officers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty since the agency’s inception in 1948.

Brewer and Miniard used vacation time to make the trip and paid for everything out of their own pockets.

No tax money was used for the walk.

The two did ask supporters to donate $1 to "The Trooper Project" for their effort.

The money would be used to build a seven-and-a-half foot bronze trooper statue to be located on the grounds of the new KSP Training Academy in Frankfort.
