Governor’s Council of Second Chance Employers
FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Governor Andy Beshear has signed an executive order creating the ‘Governor’s Council of Second Chance Employers,’ a new initiative aimed at promoting second-chance hiring and expanding career opportunities within Kentucky’s prison system. The council is part of efforts to support reintegration and reduce recidivism among former inmates.
Governor Beshear emphasized the council’s mission, stating, “But the other thing, that I’m just so grateful, and we’ve seen so many other cabinets come together in, is a real historic effort on reentry services. How we get folks reentering our society to have the skills, but then ultimately that job and it is probably the biggest determining factor of whether they are going to make it, get back with their families, repair their lives, or whether they might reoffend.”
The initiative is seen as a strategic move to reduce crime rates while simultaneously boosting the workforce in Kentucky, indicating a progressive step towards rehabilitation and economic growth.
