Governor calls for resignation amidst a sexual harassment scandal

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Governor Matt Bevin held a press conference in Frankfort Saturday afternoon calling on anyone involved in sexual harassment allegations to resign.

It comes after the Courier-Journal reported this week house speaker Jeff Hoover settled a harassment case with a former staffer .

A sexual harassment scandal has rocked the state house of representatives and Governor Matt Bevin is calling for an immediate resignation of every individual who has settled a sexual harassment case, and or trying to hide the type of behavior.

“These allegations have not been denied by anyone, these allegations are becoming increasingly corroborated by additional voices and sources.”

Bevin, without naming names, says “They know who they are”.
He had some strong words to say.

“This involves both elected officials, it involves some who are not elected that is a government employee. They should not be a government employee, they should not be representing the people of Kentucky.”

All of this comes quickly after Kentucky’s speaker of the house Jeff Hoover settled a sexual harassment allegation with one of his staffers.

There might be other allegations that we are unaware of yet.

“For the sake of themselves, for the sake of their families, for the sake of Kentucky, they should resign, period.”

Hoover released this statement after the press conference.

“I am disappointed that our Governor in his press conference Saturday afternoon would call not only for my resignation but the resignation of other individuals who have no involvement in this matter. The Governor has yet to ask our side of the story, he and I have not spoken since the story broke, and I did not receive a courtesy call from him before his grandstanding today. Instead, he has accepted as fact only, one side of the story. In effect, the Governor seeks to be judge, jury, and executioner without hearing the evidence. One must wonder why he is so motivated to attack us unless his goal is to remove a voice that dares on occasion to disagree with him as I have done when he has made unnecessary statements attacking our teachers, state workers and retirees who are simply looking for better solutions to very serious problems facing our state. I have no plans to resign. I am more resolved than ever to continue my work as Speaker thru the 2018 session and I will continue to speak out for all Kentuckians on issues of importance.”
