Governor Beshear weighs in on presidential run possibility

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Governor Andy Beshear is weighing in on the future of his political career.

When it comes to whether he might run for president, Beshear says his focus right now is not on a campaign, but on uniting the country.

He adds he’s working to be “a reasonable voice in the chaos” and plans to help elect Democratic governors across the country next year, before making any decisions about a higher office.

Beshear says the decision about his political future will come only after conversations with his family and with ” the country’s healing” in mind.

“I’ll sit down with my family and we’ll consider and what we’ll consider is is who is the best candidate to heal this country,” said Beshear. “Your neighbor is not your enemy.”

He says the nation needs leadership that puts Americans first. He is calling for unity and an end to political division.
