Governor Beshear speaks on Texas flooding

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 News Now) — Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear is offering his condolences to families affected by the devastating flooding in Texas that has claimed dozens of lives, including children attending a summer camp.

Beshear, who has led Kentucky through multiple natural disasters in recent years — including catastrophic flooding in Eastern Kentucky and deadly tornadoes in the west — said he understands the long road ahead for families impacted.

“When you look at flooding, I cannot imagine all those parents whose girls aren’t coming home from camp,” Beshear said in a statement. “We need, as a country, to wrap our arms around these individuals and be there for them — not just today and next week — but in the months and years ahead.”

The governor noted that Kentuckians know firsthand how traumatic and long-lasting such tragedies can be, and he urged the nation to show continued support and compassion well beyond the immediate aftermath.
