Governor Beshear joins lawsuit against Trump Administration
FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Governor Andy Beshear has joined leaders in 19 other states in filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration’s decision to reduce federal funding for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s homelessness programs.
HUD funding helps individuals and families experiencing homelessness find housing, support services, and long-term stability. According to state officials, more than half of next year’s HUD assistance funding is expected to be cut under the administration’s revised allocations.
The governor’s office says the money would instead be redirected toward temporary transitional housing programs that require residents to work or perform service in exchange for shelter.
In a statement posted to Facebook, Gov. Beshear called the move “illegal” and warned that Kentucky could lose more than $15 million in federal funding. He also said the cuts would worsen homelessness across the Commonwealth, putting an estimated 1,200 Kentuckians and roughly 700 households at risk.
