Governor Beshear confirms 11 flooding deaths

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Governor Andy Beshear confirmed Monday morning that the death toll from this past weekend’s severe storms has risen to 11.

During an update, Beshear said two additional victims were confirmed overnight—a man from Hardin County and another from Floyd County. The governor warned that the number may continue to rise as search and recovery efforts remain ongoing.

Beshear also reminded families impacted by the storm that financial assistance is available through the Team Kentucky Storm Relief Fund.

“The first use of this fund is always to pay for funerals so that families don’t have to wait around for reimbursement. They’re already going through enough,” Beshear said. “We have far too many families, we’re announcing more today, that have lost a loved one.”

The governor thanked first responders who have worked around the clock on rescue and cleanup efforts, as well as crews from other states who have come in to assist.

Kentucky continues to brace for more winter weather this week while still dealing with the aftermath of historic flooding.
