Gov. Beshear marks start of Black History Month
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) — Thursday marked the first day of Black History Month.
And in Frankfort, Gov. Andy Beshear spoke during the annual Legislative Black History Month celebration.
The event was held in the state Capitol Rotunda celebrating African-American history, traditions and music.
Lawmakers also focused on the achievements of the Civil Rights movement in the state.
“I will always believe that diversity is an asset. It makes us stronger. It makes us better. It makes us more welcoming for every company across the world that may choose to locate here. We talk about equity and it’s something we should all want in our heart; everyone to have true opportunity not held back by hundreds of years of unequal treatment,” said Beshear.
Yesterday’s celebration, just one of many, was held in honor of Black History Month.
