Gov. Beshear, Kentucky State Police encourage teens to apply for Trooper Island Youth Academy

FRANKFORT, KY. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Andy Beshear and Kentucky State Police are encouraging young Kentuckians to apply for the State Police Youth Academy Program.

The program, known as Trooper Island, is a weeklong immersive camp designed for 16- and 17-year-olds who are interested in a career in law enforcement. The academy focuses on leadership, physical fitness, teamwork and law enforcement principles.

The Youth Academy will be held June 28 through July 2 at Trooper Island Camp on Dale Hollow Lake. The program is offered at no cost to participants.

Applications are now open, and the deadline to apply is May 14.

Officials say the academy provides students with a firsthand look at what it takes to serve as a Kentucky State Police trooper while also helping build trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
