Gov. Beshear condemns political violence after Charlie Kirk shooting

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Governor Andy Beshear is speaking out following the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, urging leaders across the country to denounce violence without political spin.

Beshear said leaders face a clear choice: either condemn violence against anyone, or risk turning tragedy into partisan politics. He emphasized that political disagreements should never escalate into threats against human life.

“This occurs across the political spectrum, and the moment that we try to use it for politics is the moment we lose the chance to declare our humanity and to call on people to be better,” Beshear said.

The governor noted that attacks on public officials have become more frequent nationwide. He said condemning murder is not partisan — it is simply the right thing to do. Beshear called for unity, stressing that Americans must put humanity above politics.
