GOP voters to settle bitter primary for Kentucky governor

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky Republicans will decide who to nominate for governor Tuesday following months of contentious campaigning.

Matt Bevin, James Comer, Hal Heiner and Will T. Scott are all on the ballot. The winner only needs a simple majority. Public polling has been scarce, but indicates Bevin, Comer and Heiner are in a three-way tie for the nomination with Scott far behind.

The race has been overshadowed by allegations that Comer abused his college girlfriend. Comer has denied the allegations and blamed Heiner’s campaign for spreading the rumors. Bevin has tried to capitalize on the fight by offering himself as a positive alternative.

Attorney General Jack Conway is expected to easily defeat former state worker Geoff Young for the Democratic nomination.

The polls are open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time.
