GOP State Rep. Deanna Gordon announces for Barr’s congressional seat

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — The race for Kentucky’s 6th Congressional District is heating up as Republican State Representative Deanna Gordon announces her campaign for the seat currently held by Congressman Andy Barr.

Barr is running for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by longtime Senator Mitch McConnell, who announced he will not seek re-election.

Gordon says her campaign will focus on core conservative issues, including job growth and economic development, securing the southern border, defending the Second Amendment, promoting energy independence, and supporting Kentucky’s coal industry.

She also said she would have supported President Donald Trump’s tax and spending bill if she had been in Washington at the time.

Speaking about what sets her apart from other candidates, Gordon pointed to her professional experience.

“In my business as an audiologist, that’s the core of my business. I’m a listener, I’m a communicator, I’m a leader,” she said. “Those skills are going to serve me very well when I get to Washington on day one.”

On the Democratic side, Cherlynn Stevenson and David Kloiber have also announced their campaigns. Other Republicans in the race include State Representative Ryan Dotson and Ralph Alvarado, who served as former Governor Matt Bevin’s running mate.

ABC 36 NEWS NOW will continue to follow developments in this closely watched race.
