Good Giving Challenge returns

Lexington, Ky (WTVQ): The four day Good Giving Challenge has returned, helping nearly 200 local non-profits. For more than 10 years, the challenge has brought the region together to raise nearly $20 million for hundreds of local non-profits. Mayor Linda Gorton says, “this is testament to the power of giving in our community. It’s Lexington were talking about and Lexington people.”

The Blue Grass Community foundation created this challenge to encourage people to give to those in need in their community. The Hope Center spokesperson, Destiny Oakley, says their goal this year is to raise $20,000. “We provide holiday gifts to all of our clients for their family,” she said. “Winter weather gear is a big need to get people through those could months, we see an increase of the number of people were serving, the number of people were serving, feeding with food costs being so high.”

God’s Pantry Food Bank is another non-profit benefitting this week. Alex Maddox, Development Manager, says typically at the food bank, $1 provides six meals to the community, but thanks to a generous donation during good giving week $1 will provide 12 meals to the community. “To help provide nourishing meals to those in our 50 county service area, especially during the holidays when times are even more difficult for families in need,” he said
