Danville to lose and gain jobs

DANVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – The City of Danville received both good and bad economic news on Thursday.

The bad news is Caterpillar announced it’s closing its undercarriage components facility in Danville, which will mean the loss of 75-jobs.

The company is shifting production to various Caterpillar locations. The transition is expected to be complete in 2017, according to the company. Twenty-five of the Danville positions will be moved to East Peoria, Illinois, according to Caterpillar. The components made in Danville to into track-type tractors used in construction and mining.

The good news is Danville is getting 40-new jobs as National Office Furniture Inc., a subsidiary of Kimball International Inc. (NASDAQ: KBAL), is spending $530,000 to increase its production capabilities, creating the new positions.

Since the company acquired the Danville facility in 1999, the number of employees has grown from 70-to-190, with more expected to be hired in the next year, according to National Office Furniture president, Kevin McCoy.
