God’s Pantry Food Bank increasing senior service in Fayette Co.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) in Fayette County, through God’s Pantry Food Bank, has recently increased the senior service and is looking for eligible seniors to apply.

To be eligible the participant needs to have monthly income less than 130% of the poverty level. The CSFP program works to improve the health of people at least 60 years of age by supplementing their diets with nutritious United States Department of Agriculture commodity foods such as juice, cereal, milk, pasta or rice, peanut butter, canned meat, canned fruits and vegetables and fresh produce.

Anyone interested in applying for this program should come in person to St. Luke United Methodist Church on April 11 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. or to Central Christian Church, Annex building at 210 Corral St. on April 13 from 3-4 p.m.

The chart below shows the income guidelines based on 130% Federal poverty income guidelines (Effective 03-29-16).

To apply please bring an income letter with you for everyone in the household who earns an income. Social Security Award letters are preferred.

Through this USDA program the Food Bank is able to serve more than 10,000 clients each month throughout 50 counties. The retail value of each box is approximately $65. Each box contains two cartons of shelf-stable milk, two boxes of cereal, two juices, one jar of peanut butter, two cans of fruit, four cans of vegetables, two pounds of pasta, and 24 ounces of meat.
