“Give 8/28 Lex” returns to support Black-serving nonprofits in Fayette County
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The “Give 8/28 Lex” campaign returned Thursday, celebrating Black Philanthropy Month and supporting 40 Black-serving nonprofits across Fayette County.
The effort is hosted by the Lexington Black Prosperity Initiative and the Bluegrass Community Foundation. Organizers say more than $100,000 in matching dollars and prizes are available to help double donations.
A kickoff press conference was held Thursday morning at the Old Fayette County Courthouse with Mayor Linda Gorton, city leaders, and community advocates.
Last year’s campaign raised more than $120,000 for local nonprofits, and organizers say this year’s expanded effort is expected to make an even greater impact. Donations will be accepted online through midnight Thursday.
