Georgetown PD: Suspicious activity alert
GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police in Georgetown are alerting residents to a suspicious visit received by a homeowner.
According to police, two younger men in their early to mid thirties, came to a home in the county that is located away from the main road. One suspect was carrying a large rolled up rug on his shoulder while the other suspect rang the doorbell. The homeowner opened the front door but left the storm door closed.
The homeowner told police that the suspects said they were with Stanley Steamer and that they had cleaned the homeowner’s rug and were delivering it, adding that the rug was heavy and asking to come in so they could put it down. According to officers, the homeowner told the suspects that he had not sent any rugs out to be cleaned and asked the name on the delivery order. The suspects replied with the homeowner’s address only and stated they would need to come in and unroll the rug as the customer information was inside the rug.
When the homeowner declined, police say the suspects began cursing and complaining about having to take the rug back and urged the homeowner to take the rug immediately. The homeowner responded that he was calling the police. The suspects took off down the drive and entered a waiting pickup truck. The vehicle is described as an older model Dodge or Chevy, gray or very dull white in color.
The homeowner contacted Stanley Steamer and the company stated that they were not aware of anyone delivering rugs.
Georgetown police say to be extremely cautious answering the door for unfamiliar people or receiving unexpected deliveries. They are also urging people not to hesitate to call 911 immediately if you observe suspicious activity.
