Georgetown hosts mining competition

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ)- Georgetown played host Saturday to an interesting collegiate contest, a mining competition.

The UK Muckin’ Wildcats mining team hosted about 210 mining students from across the world.

The students say the goal is to preserve traditional mining techniques.

Students competed in several contests including jack-leg drilling, gold panning, and land surveying.

This is the first time UK’s mining team has hosted the competition.
