Georgetown couple reunite adoptive daughters & sisters from China
GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – Gene and Lisa Lumpkins say from the moment they learned their adopted daughter Aubrey had a biological sister in China — they wanted to reunite them.
The process was long and filled with anxiety as the Lumpkins say they were not certain if they would reach an important deadline.
Gene Lumpkins travelled to China to bring back two girls — Molly and Avery, who were recently adopted. Both girls have Cerebral Palsy.
Through DNA testing the family confirmed that Avery was the biological sister of Aubrey. Lisa Lumpkins told ABC 36 that because of Avery’s age they were not certain if the adoption would be finalized. Chinese adoptions are stopped once the child is 14 years old.
“It was super stressful because we had a deadline” Lumpkins said. “Gene actually picked Avery up two days before she could never leave the country again!”
It was at midnight Friday when Aubrey and Avery were face to face for the first time in years.
Before the latest additions to the family –The Lumpkins had two biological children and four others that are adopted.
The family told ABC 36 they now feel their family is complete.
