General Assembly overrides Governor’s veto of House Bill 18

Bill will stop cities from enforcing local laws preventing housing discrimination

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky’s General Assembly voted to override Governor Andy Beshear’s veto of House Bill 18.

The bill, when it becomes law, will stop cities from enforcing local laws preventing housing discrimination against people who use Section 8 vouchers.

House Bill 18 passed the state senate and house a week ago, putting Lexington’s source of income discrimination ban ordinance in limbo.

The city’s Urban County Council passed the ordinance last month

The bill now heads to the Secretary of State’s office to be signed into law.
