Gas Station Robbed Next Door to Police Station
Even though police officers were right next-door, it took over 20 minutes for officers to respond to an armed robbery in-progress at a Lexington gas station late Tuesday night.
Officers were attending role call, a meeting between officers and supervisors at the start of a shift, at Lexington Police’s East Sector station. But unknown to officers, two men were robbing a gas station next door.
Once officers got the call, they rushed over to the gas station, arriving just seconds later, but it was already too late.
During the robbery, the gas station employee hit a panic alarm button that should prompt the alarm company to immediately call police, but that call was delayed by about 20 minutes, police said.
The two suspects were captured on security cameras during the robbery, police officials said. Employees at the gas station told officers that the two suspects are frequent customers at the gas station.
According to police, the two men went inside and waited for other customers inside the store to leave. Them, one of them showed a gun and demanded cash.
Police are still investigating.
