Funeral services announced for detective who died on-duty
STANTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Funeral arrangements will be held this weekend for a Stanton Police detective who died after suffering a medical emergency on Tuesday.
According to a post on Facebook from a law enforcement group, 40-year-old James T. Kirk died while on-duty at the Powell County Courthouse.
The Stanton Police Department shared a post expressing grief over the sudden death of the detective.
The post says Kirk started his career with the department in 2002, but left to become a peace officer for both Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Clay City Police Department, eventually becoming chief.
It continues saying Kirk jumped at the chance to come back to the Stanton Police Department in 2018, where he became a detective. The department says Kirk was an excellent detective who enjoyed spending time with his family and was a dear friend to everyone in the law enforcement community.
According to the department, funeral arrangements are as follows:
The visitation will be at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 755 West College Ave in Stanton, on Friday, February 14 from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
The funeral will be held at the same place at noon on February 15th.
