Funeral planned for Kentucky woman killed in 1969
HARLAN, Ky. (AP) – A funeral will be held to honor a previously unidentified Kentucky woman who was murdered nearly 50 years ago.
WYMT-TV reports the public service for 21-year-old Sonja Kaye Blair-Adams is scheduled for 5 p.m. July 29 at Mount Pleasant Home in Harlan. A memorial concert will follow at 7 p.m. at the Harlan courthouse square.
A man picking flowers on the side of Little Shepherd Trail in Harlan County found Blair-Adams’ body in 1969, and police determined she’d been stabbed to death. Blair-Adams remained unidentified and known as “Mountain Jane Doe” until September of last year.
Now her daughter, Karen Stipes, is planning a funeral for her so she can finally be laid to rest. Stipes says the service is meant to honor Blair-Smith and those who helped identify her.
