Funeral for Nicholasville Police Officer Anthony Ruggiero
NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The funeral for Nicholasville Police Officer Anthony Ruggiero will be held Friday as the community prepares to say a final goodbye.
As previously reported, officials say Ruggiero, 36, died last Sunday at his home in Wilmore. He was a nine-year veteran of the Nicholasville Police Department and was widely recognized as a local hero. In addition to serving in law enforcement, Ruggiero was a military veteran, a former 911 dispatcher, and had worked with the fire department.
His funeral will take place from noon to 1 p.m. at Southland Christian Church on Harrodsburg Road in Nicholasville. A funeral procession with a police escort will follow, traveling through Nicholasville before reaching Camp Nelson National Cemetery, where Ruggiero will be laid to rest.
According to the Nicholasville Police Department, the procession will travel from Harrodsburg Road to State Road 169, then to North Main Street, before continuing south to the cemetery off Danville Road and U.S. 27.
The police department’s office will be closed Friday in honor of Officer Ruggiero’s service and sacrifice.
