Fugitive wanted for child molestation captured near Winchester after two years on the run
WINCHESTER, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A fugitive who had been on the run for two years has been captured.
According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Steven Sumner was taken into custody Tuesday by U.S. Marshals near Winchester.
Sumner was wanted on felony warrants in Madison County for Level 1 felony child molestation. The warrant stemmed from a criminal investigation conducted by Indiana State Police in August 2020.
After failing to appear in court, a subsequent warrant was issued for his arrest in July 2023.
Investigators from the Madison County Sheriff’s Department worked with U.S. Marshals to develop and follow leads that ultimately led to Sumner’s arrest.
