Lexington police said the tractor-trailer hit an object in the roadway near mile marker 87.
The object punctured the tank, causing diesel fuel to spill.
The Lexington Fire Department responded to the scene along with an environmental cleanup crew.
One lane of traffic was closed while the fuel was cleaned up.
