Frozen Pipes Causing Havoc In Lexington
On Thursday morning, The Kingdom Center Church on Swigert Avenue was another victim of damage from broken pipes.
The Lexington Fire Department said they responded to the church for an fire alarm call just after 1 a.m.
When crews arrived on scene, they said they found water pouring from the building and discovered a broken pipe in the attic. The rushing water caused damage to the drywalls, carpet and collapsed a ceiling in one of the church’s entry ways.
Fire crews worked quickly with Kentucky American Water Company to get the water supply to the building turned off.
"The water was coming down the wall in the front door, coming outside," said Cameron Minter, a church member who got the call to come check on the automatic alarm. "I just saw the results of the ceiling that caved in and the water [that] is pretty extensive throughout the halls."
The church said Thursday’s services are canceled.
The Lexington Fire Department said between Tuesday morning and Wednesday evening, they responded to more than 100 calls for burst pipes.
