Friends remember murdered U.K. student
Krueger was a junior at the University of Kentucky majoring in Integrated Strategic Communication.
Those who knew Krueger say he was loving and king and extremely creative. Friends say he was the most genuine guy they’d ever met and everyone liked him.
Krueger was a photo editor for the Kentucky Kernel, UK’s student newspaper. He recently covered the NCAA and SEC tournaments for the Kernel.
Krueger was also a member of the Beta Theta Pi, Snowcats: UK’s Ski, Snowboard & Outdoor Club, was a rep for Red Bull and was a photographer for Trifection Entertainment. His friends say he loved fishing and anything outdoors.
According to Lexington police, Justin D. Smith has been charged for his alleged involvement in Krueger’s death.
Police say Krueger, 22, was walking with a friend along East Maxwell near Transylvania Park at around two o’clock Friday morning, when they were approached by Smith and possible others.
They say the suspects then tried to rob Krueger and the other person.
We’re told Krueger’s friend managed to escape, but Krueger was shot multiple times. He was then rushed to UK Chandler Hospital, where he was pronounced dead due to a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the Fayette County Coroner.
Officials say their investigation on Krueger’s death is ongoing, and they are still looking for the other suspects involved.
Smith is charged with murder, robbery, tampering with physical evidence and fleeing and evading police.
