Free paper shredding while paper recycling is still unavailable
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington offered free paper shredding to the community on Saturday.
Residents were given the opportunity to bring up to five boxes or bags of material.
This was a way for people to safely dispose of paper in an environmentally-friendly way.
Shred-it was at the event and as they received the paper from people they securely destroyed it in their mobile shredding trucks.
That paper is then recycled into low-grade paper products.
Heather Clary with the Better Business Bureau says this is a great chance for people to get rid of important documents in a safe way.
“It can be troublesome just throwing them out in the trash without getting rid of that information. There are people known as dumpster divers who do look for that information behind apartment complexes, office buildings, see what kind of information they can steal to create fake id’s, open lines of credit, you name it,” Clary said.
She said there were multiple people that came through and mentioned they are anxious to recycle their paper again.. so this was a great alternative in the meantime.
