Franklin County man accused of killing sons in house fire set for September trial
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A Franklin County man accused of intentionally setting a house fire that killed his two sons and a family dog is now scheduled to stand trial.
Court records show Dustin Fields is set for trial on September 22, with a status hearing scheduled for August 22.
According to investigators, Fields allegedly set his home on Flat Creek Road on fire on April 30, trapping and killing his 13- and 15-year-old sons inside. A family dog also died in the fire. Fields was indicted in June on two counts of capital murder, first-degree arson, and two counts of torture of a dog. He remains in custody at the Franklin County Regional Jail.
In addition to the arson and murder case, Fields is facing new charges. A separate July 1 indictment accuses him of five counts of first-degree sexual abuse involving a child under the age of 12. Investigators say those alleged incidents occurred between 2007 and 2009.
The investigation into both cases remains ongoing.
