Franklin County father indicted for capital murder after deadly house fire
FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A Franklin County father has been indicted on multiple charges, including two counts of capital murder, in connection with a deadly house fire that killed his two sons and a family dog earlier this year.
According to a press release from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Dustin Fields was indicted by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office on June 25. The charges include one count of first-degree arson, two counts of capital murder, and two counts of torture of a dog.
Fields is accused of setting his house on fire on Flat Creek Road in Frankfort. Investigators say Fields allegedly knew his two sons, Bently and Rylan, were inside.
Investigators say Fields’ statements about the fire were inconsistent and conflicted with witness accounts.
Investigators served a state search warrant at the property on June 9, following the April 30 fire. Authorities spent four days analyzing more than 7,000 pounds of fire debris to collect evidence.
Officials say the investigation is still active and ongoing.
Last month, Fields pleaded not guilty to first degree arson charges.
