Franklin County community mourns the loss of longest serving Sheriff

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 News Now) — The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of former Sheriff Ted Collins, the county’s longest-serving sheriff.

Officials say Collins passed away Wednesday evening at Baptist Health Lexington. He served Franklin County for a total of 27 years, first as a deputy and later as sheriff.

In addition to his law enforcement career, Collins also served two terms as Franklin County judge-executive, leaving a lasting mark on the community through decades of public service.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
