Franklin Co. Humane Society to observe National Feral Cat Day Oct. 16
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Franklin County Humane Society will recognize National Feral Cat Day (NFCD) on October 16 to bring attention to the efforts that reduce the unnecessary killing of cats in the United States.
As part of this year’s local observance, hand-crafted feeding bowls in honor of Lionel, “Cat in Residence” at New Leash on Life Thrift & Architectural Salvage, will be available for a $15 donation. Bowls will be available at New Leash on Life Thrift & Architectural Salvage and Broadway Clay in Frankfort on Friday and Saturday, October 16-17.
All proceeds will support the Franklin County Humane Society’s TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) Program to reduce the overpopulation of feral and stray cats in Frankfort and Franklin County.
Through Trap-Neuter-Return, outdoor cats are humanely trapped and brought to a veterinarian to be evaluated, spayed or neutered, and vaccinated. While under anesthesia, the cats are ear-tipped— a small portion of the left ear is painlessly removed for identification. After they recover from the sterilization surgery, they are returned to their outdoor home.
