Frankfort police investigating shooting tied to family argument
FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Frankfort police are investigating a shooting that happened Monday afternoon on John Davis Drive.
According to the Frankfort Police Department, officers were called around 3:49 p.m. to the 8000 block of John Davis Drive after a man reported that he had shot his brother.
Police say when officers arrived, a man and a woman were seen leaving the apartment building. Authorities say the two ignored commands to stop, got into a vehicle and sped off, nearly causing a head-on collision with another officer.
Frankfort police officers and Franklin County sheriff’s deputies followed the vehicle onto Interstate 64 westbound. Police say the driver continued to drive recklessly, causing a crash on I-64 west of the Kentucky River Bridge. The pursuit then continued onto U.S. 127 northbound and King’s Daughter’s Drive before ending at a local hospital.
Once the pursuit ended, officers discovered the driver had suffered a gunshot wound to the lower torso. Police say the victim is stable.
Officers who remained at the original scene later located the suspect at the residence and took him into custody without incident.
Police identified the suspect as 34-year-old Ryan M. Hill of Frankfort. Investigators say the shooting appears to have stemmed from an argument between the two individuals. A handgun and other evidence were recovered at the scene.
According to Assistant Chief Scott Tracy, Hill was later released, and charges are pending as the investigation continues.
